Van Gaal showed his tactical acumen at the current World Cup and did not break his tradition of trusting young players. In 1/8 final Huntelaar played against Mexico. First, he made a goal assist and then, scored goal.

In the match against Costa Rica van Gaal replaced goalkeeper Cillessen by Tim Krul who had not spent a minute on the field before. This substitution worked again and Krul parried two penalties.

We must mention Costa Rica which is leaving the championship with the head up. Nobody knows which Costa Rican generation can repeat such result.

Before the match many thought that “fairytale” of Costa Rica would have finished in full-time. However, the players of Colombian Pinto fought till the end and nobody believed in victory of Netherlands before the end of penalty shootout.
