Jose Pekerman, head coach of the Colombian national team, is sure his team will beat Brazil in ¼ final of World Cup. He made this statement at the press conference after the match against Uruguay (2:0).
The Argentine specialist was very happy with historic result (as he called it) against Uruguay. He stated it was a very tough match. According to Pekerman, they were totally concentrated and were controlling the match during two halves.
Pekerman stated it was very important to score goal at the beginning of the match.
Pekerman was asked about James Rodriguez. The Argentine stated Rodriguez has everything to become the best player in the world. Pekerman characterized Rodriguez as a very technical and individual football player who is also a team player. Pekerman thinks regardless of young age, James can take responsibility on the field. He has no doubt that the current World Cup will “become” Rodriguez’s.
Pekerman was asked about the upcoming match against Brazil. He stated it will be a match of two very technical and strong teams. He thinks none of the teams will be a favorite in the next match. Despite the potential of Brazil, Pekerman believes in success of his team. He highlighted that Colombia does not depend only on Rodriguez. Cuadrado and goalkeeper Ospina also played well.
Pekerman noted several times that he respects Brazil which has top players but neither the opponent must keep calmness. Pekerman highlighted sometimes teams with lack of individuality achieve success at the expense of other components.
One of the journalists asked Pekerman about the chances of Colombia at World Cup. Pekerman replied he is satisfied with the results and the future will show the rest.
By the way, the South American journalists often address to coaches as “Professor”.
